BIRD SIGHTINGS IN NORFOLK (Taken from Bird Guides Newsletter)
4th-10th October
• A HUME'S LEAF WARBLER was at Holkham Pines (Norfolk) from Sunday 6th till Wednesday 10th at least.

• The 1st-winter LESSER GREY SHRIKE was last reported from Holkham (Norfolk) on Monday 8th having been present for nearly a week.

• RED-THROATED PIPITS were reported from Norfolk

• RADDE'S WARBLERS were reported from eastern counties: at Holme (Norfolk) on 5th-6th, and The Naze (Essex) on 7th-8th.

• YELLOW-BROWED WARBLERS and BARRED WARBLERS were widespread, and GREENISH WARBLERS were reported from Norfolk. The Moltoni's SARDINIAN WARBLER at Burnham Overy (Norfolk) was not seen after 5th.

• Around 9 COMMON ROSEFINCHES included a well-watched and photographed individual at Warham Greens (Norfolk) from 7th.

• A probable PRATINCOLE SANDPIPER. at Hapton (Norfolk) on Saturday 6th

• RED-NECKED PHALAROPES were at Kelling Water Meadows and Cley (Norfolk).

• A TEMMINCK'S STINT was at Titchwell (Norfolk) on 4th/5th.

• ROUGH-LEGGED BUZZARD sightings came from Norfolk.

• New GREAT WHITE EGRET two or three sightings in Norfolk.

• COMMON CRANES were sighted in Norfolk.

• SNOW GEESE were in Norfolk with a BLACK BRANT at Wells-next-the-Sea.

27th September to 3rd October
• Mouth-watering rarities arrived thick and fast during the week, most of them on the various parts of Shetland, though rarities made landfall all along the east coast as far south as Kent. A male SUBALPINE WARBLER at Burnham Overy (Norfolk) from 30th onwards was widely considered to belong to the race moltoni, often referred to as Moltoni's Subalpine Warbler, an endemic race of the western Mediterranean islands. This bird may prove to be the first well-documented occurrence of this race for Britain, though it has been suspected in the past.

• A LESSER GREY SHRIKE was at Holkham (Norfolk) from 2nd onwards.

• Probable MOLTONI'S SUBALPINE WARBLER in Norfolk.

• A dozen SHORE LARKS included seven over Cley (Norfolk).

• Five RED-NECKED PHALAROPES were present along the east cost between Spurn (E. Yorks) and Cley (Norfolk).

Seawatchers were able to enjoy good numbers of SABINE'S GULLS along the east coast and several GREAT WHITE EGRETS included two over Holkham (Norfolk) on 3rd October.

• Both SNOW GOOSE and ROSS'S GOOSE were present with Pinkfeet in Norfolk.

• Half-a-dozen GREENISH WARBLERS were noted, most in Norfolk, and RADDE'S WARBLERS included one at Sea Palling (Norfolk) on 30th September.
